Don't stop taking St John's wort - it really does help depression.

In an article for the Daily Mail,Professor George Lewith talks about the positive effects of St John's Wort. He says

"This herb is as effective in treating mild to moderate depression as any of the pharmaceutical medications such as SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors), most famously Prozac. Let me make it clear: I am not talking about using the herb in major depressions where the patient is suicidal or a danger to others, nor am I talking about day-to-day blues.
‘Mild to moderate’ depression can be debilitating and life-changing in a negative way. Good treatment is essential.

I will carry on recommending this herb because it’s much kinder to patients. It’s very well tolerated, with most patients seeing fast results, with few side-effects and fewer withdrawal symptoms.

There are many studies that have found St John's wort to be effective and well-tolerated
Many patients on antidepressants struggle with nausea, insomnia, weight gain and sexual dysfunction. When it’s time to stop, they face headaches and cravings.    Read more:

Marks and Spencer to leave Newport city centre

Beanfreaks were saddened to hear that Marks and Spencer plan  to leave Newport city centre.
This was reported in The Newport Argus Today.

Marks and Spencer is the latest in a line of high street chains to announce a move out of Newport city centre.
Last week we reported clothes stores Next and Monsoon will both close their Newport stores before January 2011 and the news comes just days after proposals to close the city’s passport office were revealed.

News of Marks and Spencer's move out of the city centre sparked concerns among members of Newport Chamber of Trade, who say the current store brings a lot of customers into the city centre.
Kevin Tovey, who manages CL Jeffries Jewellers in Skinner Street, said traders had been dealt "two big blows at once", with the news following last Friday’s announcement about the Passport Office.
"There are so many major retailers leaving the city centre and Marks and Spencer brings a lot of people into Newport," he said.
"This is really a death nail."

Beanfreaks Plan to stay put in Newport and would like to reassure our valued customers that we will continue to be here to serve them!

Solgar ‘Sunshine in a Box’
This article was published by the Woman and Home Magazine, written by Lynn Cardy

The best way to brighten up this winter
£25
I've read the book, I'm taking the tablets and I have to say I'm feeling pretty chipper at the thought of winter. After writing our feature on vitamin D for the November issue I just had to test out the theory that we should all be taking vitamin D which, as research is currently revealing, has such an impact on our wellbeing. Well the good news is that my long standing joint aches have all but vanished and my energy has magically revved up - great   for me but I'm driving the family nuts!
If you suffer from SAD, aches, pains or that can't quite put your finger on it gloom, then it could be the supplement you need to see you through to spring and beyond. The clever guys at Solgar - who know our passion for understanding the facts and putting them into practice - have put three feel-good-factor supplements (5-HTP, Rhodiola and Vitamin D3) together with a free copy of Dr James Dowd's groundbreaking book The Vitamin D Cure in one neat package. Who says you can't buy sunshine in a box?
